My tenant intend to renew his tenancy for another 1 year hence is it norm to ask for an additional security deposit required for this renewal while holding the current deposit as well?

Hi, if your tenant is renewing for 2 years, then that is when you could ask for another month of deposit.

Since its for another year only, then no. Unless he is renewing for 2 years.
From your case, it sounds like one year only..
