My brother and his wife added me to their hdb flat years ago. I think I own 10% share. His wife passed away a few years ago, so the hdb only has my name and my brothers. I would like to get a condo or hdb in my own name, what is the best way to remove my name from the hdb. Do I have to pay absd if I buy a condo?

You may wish to speak to your brother first and seek HDB approval to sell your existing share to your brother if there is no intention to sell the current HDB before you purchase a condo without ABSD. If you purchase now, there will be ABSD.

Hi,

You will need to seek HDB approval to sell or transfer your 10% share to your brother first before buying the private property. If not, buying now will incur the 17% ABSD for the 2nd property as you still have 1 property ownership count.

1) If you buy a condo now with your current status you will incur 17% ABSD being an SC.
2) The best way to remove your name is to perform a part-sale to sell this 10% back to your brother so that you are free from owning a residential property.
3) You will be able to buy a condo without incurring an ABSD upon completion of the part-sale process.
