I believe the agent will have his or her reason for suggesting this. We as agent always have a care of duty towards our client and will ensure to get the best deal for our client.

Reason for lowering the price could be due to the demand of the area or the market rate is lower than what was being asked.
It best to clarify with your agent.

Alternatively, if you did not sign any exclusive and don't mind engaging more than 1 agent, you can consider looking for other agents as well.

Before you change you Agent, I would like you to ask yourself, whether your Asking Price is above market price or market expectations?

If your Asking Price is realistic and within market expectations, I think it is unfair for you that the Agent pressure you to reduce your price.

However, if your Asking Price is not realistic in today's market, then I would suggest you to seek more opinion from various parties, do more in-depth studies and research, before you come up with a more realistic price. If you cannot accept the market's realistic price after the homework, I would suggest you not to sell the house for now.

We need to take an objective view to this incident.

An agent's role is to assist their seller to sell as high as possible, therefore if your agent ask you to reduce selling price, yes, I think he or she should be replaced.

If you view him or her as an advisor or consultant to your property sale, then we need to examine why are they putting up such advise, despite understanding that the client will be unhappy at being asked to reduced price and risk being sacked as the marketing agent. Our role as an advisor or consultant is to ensure that our clients' interests are not short changed based on the existing market fundamentals and that they are able to move on and benefit from the situation.

As many of my fellow professionals have indicated earlier, understand the root of the issues will be more important. Given the transparency of the market transactions today, most buyers are savvy and will have on hand information on the latest pricing and values, therefore if you are overpricing the property for sale, these buyers will definitely be aware, therefore your property is likely going to be a showcase for these prospective buyers and help other competing units to sell. With that being said, it will certainly benefit you to seek alternative opinions, if you do not have such access to information and can potentially be looking at cherry picked information.
