I had been advised that even though I own a HDB with my spouse, I am able to purchase second property (i.e. private condo) without incurring the Additional Buyer Stamp Duty or other additional costs by de-coupling. Is that true and if so how do I go about to de-couple? Thank you.

Morning,

If any agents told you that you will not incur any cost by de-coupling, you can being misled. As you own HDB unit, you will need to go through divorce before your partner can do part purchase of your shares. With that, cash component will be required for down payment, legal fee, stamp fee, etc. This is only applicable if your spouse is SC.
Once your name have being removed from the HDB ownership, you will then be eligible to purchase the private property, without incurring ABSD, if you are SC.
