I am holding onto a condo in my own name. Because I have never utilised my first right to get a BTO, I am thinking the possibilities of passing the condo to a fellow family member or friend. Is this possible? Please advise.

You will only be eligible for the application of BTO after you have fulfilled 30 months from the transfer of your private property.

Hi,

You need to wait out a 30month period after selling your condo before you can apply for BTO. For resale HDB, there is no need to wait out but you have to sell your condo after purchasing resale hdb. Thanks and hope to assist further.

Hi Linda,

Besides the 30-month wait out period before you can purchase a BTO flat, do note that you'd be liable for SSD if you've owned your property for less than 4 years, and the family member or friend who takes over your property has to pay BSD.

There seem to be no valid reason for you to surrender your name to obtain HDB BTO after 30 months.

The gap price between HDB and Condo are widening. Condo will be less reachable for upgrader as the price of HDB been dropping in a much faster gap than condo.

Good evening Linda,

Yes you definitely can do so. But you have to dispose your private property first and observe a waiting period of 30 months before you can apply for BTO or sale of balance flats.

The question is do you want to wait that long for a BTO? This doesnt include the construction period.

In addition, you have to fulfill 5 years minimum occupation period before you are eligible to purchase property.

It might take you another 10 years to own a private property again. Do you want that?
