Hi,

1) This will depend on which stage of life you are in today.
2) If you are below 40 years old, buying a resale condo will be a forced saving so as you may retire just by selling the condo and retire in an HDB flat.
3) If you are above 50 years old, buying a resale HDB will be more ideal since your mortgage loan will be drastically reduced because your loan tenure is limited to 15 years only.
4) If you are between 40 to 50 years old, it will depend on how high is your risk factor.
5) If there is a choice, a private condo is an ideal way to preserve your wealth in general.

Dear Buyer,
To buy a resale HDB or Condo is a very subjective question. It all depends on the buyers ability to pay and their long term plans. Honestly, if both are the same price everyone will choose the condos due to the facilities. But, they are not.

As such, looking at the potential, condos are better in the longer term due to their ability to go for enbloc (if they are old ones). Although the HDB resale market is bigger, many Singaporeans are now upgrading to condos within 10 years. As such, the condos are a very good bet and hedge against inflation too.

Having said that, I must add that location of the HDB or condo is important too for any asset appreciation to take place. The nearer to the CBD, the better the future for either of them. So, to find out how you can make the best decision, please call me.
