I've read your query with much interest and amusement. Clearly you have found the discussion threads sub-standard by your standards.
Let me make a humble attempt to answer your query on "contrarian-nism".
1. "I find it silly that people here ask questions about..."
There are no silly questions. There are only silly people who presume that they know, but are too proud to ask a humble question.
2. "This portal is infested with agents..."
This is the "Ask Guru" portal, in a property website last I checked, who were you expecting other than agents?
3. "Their replies are almost standard..."
Statistically, 1/2 of the billionaires around the world have made their fortunes in some real estate enterprise. They buy and sell properties regardless of the global economic climate, hence, it would be safe to assume that holding/buying/dealing in real estate will give some probability of gaining a standard of wealth. Unless your contrarian purpose in this life is bones and rags?
3. "Akin to asking a fruit seller if the papaya or the watermelon is sweet.."
A fruit seller, no doubt a fruit seller, has pride in each and all of his fruit, and obviously, watermelons are not papayas, making the comparion between the two is how do you say it? "Silly"? Similarly, real estate works the same way, no 2 units are ever the same, but there will always be someone out there who will like it.
I hope the break down and subsequent answer of your query is satisfactory.
However, there is another note that I would like to point out.
The choice of the pen name "Contrarian".
"Contrarian" means to take an opposing view, or one who rejects the majority opinion.
Sometimes the word contrarian can be used interchangable with "rebel" which I would use in this case to better illustrate and answer your query.
A "Rebel" with a cause is a "Visionary", A "Hero" in some aspects, but I wonder what yours is, or that if you even have one.
To the average reasonable person who reads your query, the liberal use of words like, "Silly", "Infested", "Come on", "Any"?, gives the tonality not of a sincere question, but that of a hooligan seeking a confrontation. Hence, not a "Hero" or a "Visionary", perhaps "Wilful" next time would better suffice.
What this forum is for, is a SAFE environment for sincere buyers/sellers/tenants to come and ask for opnions of the agents here. Whether the opinion is one that is of quality or not is for the reader to discern,
