Hi Gurus, I'm 45 working overseas fulltime, was divorced years ago and had a HDB unit before but that is more than 10 years ago. 5 years ago I sold my condo unit after getting a job oversea. Now I do not have any property in Singapore and thinking of getting a small unit for investment and also future retirement home. Can you advise what feasible? A studio condo or a HDB unit?

Hi Mr. Loy

Studio Condo near to MRT would be a feasible one.. Reasonable rental yield and also more upside as near to MRT especially in mature estate..

Hi Lawrence,

If you have plans to stay overseas and to rent out the unit immediately to collect rental income, I guess a private project will be more suitable. For resale HDB, you cannot sublet the whole unit until the MOP of 5 years is met. May I have more info and requirements about your plans so to make better recommendations? Afternoon Lawrence,

Upon getting HDB unit, you will be required to fulfill the MOP of 5 years before you are eligible to rent out the whole unit. You can however appeal to HDB for special approval on that, subjected up to 3 years time grace. After which, you must return to SG to fulfill the MOP requriement.
However, if you are looking the private condo, you will not have sure issues.
