What would PropertyGuru experts advise to owners of ageing HDB flats who would ideally prefer to stay but can't stomach a sizeable asset they've invested in going to $0 value, perhaps before they even die. (https://www.straitstimes.com/forum/letters-in-print/clarity-on-hdb-leases-needed-for-retirement-planning) Should we buy another freehold to rent out in case we get kicked out when the HDB lease expires if extensions aren't given and we don't benefit from SERS? Hi Ben,

As the majority of HDB flats still have more than 50 years of balance lease left, there is no need to wait till the flats goes to zero value.

Instead of just waiting 50 years for time to pass by, in my opinion, you have more than ample time to plan for your next move.

Having said that, it is always good to plan ahead, and not wait till the last minute. Most panic decisions are made when Time is not in your favour, and these decisions usually end up being painful decisions.

Should you need any further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you and your partner in the current market.

Thank you.

Best regards,
