We are both senior couple singaporean who are above 60 yo, we applied a short lease (40 years lease) BTO from HDB and the BTO flat will be ready around between year 2026 and 2028, now we are thinking to buy a freehold condo in Jobor bahru as an investment, are we allowed to do so?

Hi,

you may wish to contact HDB to enquire about this, as the situation might be different for short lease, but in general, the answer is no as there is a 5 year MOP before you are allowed to acquire any foreign property.

Hi Eric,

1) I believe you had already signed the agreement for lease with the HDB when you booked your unit.
2) There is a clause that households with at least one Singapore Citizen flat owner and occupiers may only invest in private residential property only after the MOP.
3) If you happened to forget or didn't read the fine print. You may see the rule stated in the link:
