Understand from HDB website that citizens can’t buy new HDB flat if they own overseas property but this restriction is not there for buying new EC (executive condo) or DBSS unit. The HDB website doesn’t clarify whether PR can buy resale DBSS or resale EC unit which are more than 5 years old if the buyer own overseas property. I am a permanent resident currently and planning to apply for citizenship. Can I buy resale DBSS flat (more than 5 years old) if I own overseas property in India

Evening Subra,

For both SC and SPR, they are required to remove the ownership status on their residential property, local or overseas, within 6 months from key collection on their resale HDB or DBSS. However, for resale EC, which is considered as private property after MOP, different set of rules will set in.
