The current HDB that my husband and I are living in is under my husband's and his father's names. Can I buy a private condo now and then later become a joint owner to our existing HDB? (The plan is to switch the HDB co-ownership from my father-in-law to me). Will I be liable for additional buyer stamp duty for either condo or HDB? Will I be eligible to become a co-owner to the HDB after getting my private property?

Dear Buyer,
If you want to be a joint owner of an HDB apartment, you cannot own a private apartment. As such, you need to consider carefully, what your future plans are. Buying a private apartment whilst being a HDB owner incurs ABSD of 12%. So, please plan your purchases carefully.

Do contact me if you need more detailed info.

Hi Mdm,

Yes, you can purchase a private property under your name without ABSD.

You can also switch over as co-owner of the HDB flat from your Father-in-law to you.

However, do take note that you will need to dispose off your interest in your private property latest within 6 months upon the HDB transfer of ownership. If the HDB transfer is done within 3 years of the condo purchase, SSD for the condo sale will be payable too.

I am experienced and well-versed in both HDB and private transactions. I will be able to assist you in your property plans. Please get in touch with me for a more in-depth discussion.

Should you need require further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you in the current market.

Hi,

1) You may buy a private condo now if your husband bought the current HDB flat before marriage.
2) You are not allowed to buy if your husband bought the current HDB flat after marriage and the current flat has not met MOP.
3) Once you bought a private condo you will not be able to be an owner of an HDB flat. Unless you sold your private condo within 6 months upon becoming the owner of the HDB flat.
4) You can only be an owner of the HDB flat followed by observing a 5 yrs MOP, then can buy a private condo.
5) As you can see that whether you own only part of the property (HDB flat), the next property purchase shall be subject to ABSD.

Hope the above answer your main concerns, but if there are more query, please feel free to contact me at 90110636  , or email: ling.ck7@gmail.com if more information is needed.
I'll be glad to assist.
