Some agent here said that an SC + long term visit pass non-citizen parent can buy a resale hdb, but the occupier(non citizen parent) must sell his private property overseas after 6 months?? Is this true? This doesnt make sense because the non-citizen family of course has his original house in his country and will not sell. So there is no way around this? A single SC must just wait till he is 35 freaking old? Too bad...

Morning Yu Li,

I'm assuming that you are referring to my response yesterday, to you. You are using Non-citizen spouse / family scheme for the application. By doing so, your co-applicant or essential occupier forms the nucleus which permits the purchase. It's even written on the HDB website, which are policies we cannot change. Alternatively, you can try to write into HDB and double check.

All the best.

Hi Yu Li

I would agree with Mike on this one. This rule actually applies to SC as well. Similarly, SC would have to dispose of their private properties within 6 months when they purchase a resale HDB flat.

Having said that, you may wish to write in to HDB to explain the situation overseas and see if they can do anything for you.

Hope this helps!
