May I know your wife's place is a hdb or condo? For EC, there are various EC eligibility conditions to fulfil as well. May I have more info and requirements about your plans so to make better recommendations? Thanks and look forward to value-add to your housing plans.

For your situation, you may wish to purchase those EC projects which is completed or time of completion to coincides with the sale of your HDB. In this manner, you can have a smooth transition and do not need to go through the trouble of renting in the open market.
