My parents are heading for a divorce. They own a private property which my dad will keep after the divorce. My mum needs to purchase a small flat, 2 / 3-room. How can she purchase? I am the only child, would I have to be listed as co-occupier in the flat? I have plans of marriage and am planning a BTO with my partner this year. How should we go about this?

Evening Yeo,

Depending on your mother's income status, she can purchase resale HDB unit if she's above 35 years old, without the need to add you into the ownership. HDB knowing that divorce couple might have issue communicating, it's no longer essential for the other party to agree. Hence it would be likely for you to carry on with your life and plans. What we need to do now is to understand what your mother is up against.
