As a married couple is considered as a family unit, both husband and wife can therefore own only 1 HDB flat at any one time, and will need to be listed as a co-owner or occupier in the same flat.

If your spouse has been included as an occupier of your flat, he or she will be deemed as an essential occupier of your flat and both of you are required to fulfil the requisite Minimum Occupation Period (MOP). This MOP will apply to renting out of the flat, acquiring an interest in private property and selling the flat, subject to meeting the eligibility conditions.

It sounds like you are planning ahead for decoupling, asset progression and asset management for potentially owning multiple properties under different names.

Hi

Unfortunately no, HDB sees both you and your legal spouse as a family nucleus entity, which means you cannot apply hdb on your own, and have to include his or her name. This means he or she has to sell away the property as well.

1. **Single-Ownership with Spouse as Occupier** – You can buy an HDB/BTO under your name alone, but your spouse must be listed as an essential occupier. The family unit (both of you) can own only one HDB flat at a time.

If you’re legally married, you cannot apply for a HDB BTO or resale flat as a single applicant. HDB requires married couples to apply jointly under the Public Scheme or other relevant schemes. Single applications are only allowed for those who are unmarried, divorced, or widowed.

If neither you nor your spouse own any HDB flat currently, you should apply together as a couple to be eligible for BTO or resale grants.

Hi,

1) You may apply for BTO or buy a resale HDB alone.
2) But, your spouse's name must be filled in the application.
3) The HDB categorized a married as a single entity. Your application wouldn't be complete without your spouse particulars.
4) Your spouse can be a core occupier and not an owner, but he/she must be aware and support your action.
5) He/She will need to comply to all the same obligations listed by the HDB as an owner.
