March is still a few months away so I would not recommend you putting a deposit so early as there may be quite a lot of risks involved.

Instead, you may want to try appealing for permission to sell early. I have recently assisted clients in a same situtation as yourself. They are now happy owners of a private property.

I have not personally handled such transactions before although I have heard about it where upgraders like yourself were encouraged to put up a deposit to lock in a unit they like with an extended Option period. Nevertheless, I'd like to highlight that there will definitely be risks involved in such arrangement.

Regulations like loan to value, stamp duties can be changed over this period, thus affecting your finances in this instance. Also, depending on the financial situation of the seller over a 6 months period, it could be a situation where seller is also facing financial difficulties and maybe subject to face bankruptcy proceedings.

It will be more appropriate to appeal to HDB for premature sale instead and take on from there.

Legally, you're not supposed to put up an option to buy another residential unit when you have not met the MOP of your current HDB flat.
