Dear sir/mdm,

I suppose you have purchased this HDB prior getting married so it is not required for your wife to be added as an essential occupier. Whether or not your wife is added as an occupier, you will still be required to obtain spouse's consent in the event that you decide to sell this HDB in the future. Personally I do not see any benefits or difference by adding your wife as an occupier or not.

To ask this question, I suppose there should be some form of discussion ongoing and perhaps concerns arising out of the discussion. Perhaps it could be helpful to know what the concerns are in order to assist better.

I have been in the real estate business since 2009, with more than 13 years of experience serving the Singapore real estate market.

I am very active in the residential segment of Singapore real estate market, having transacted hundreds of deals from HDBs to private condominiums and landed properties in Singapore, and have handled many unique cases in sales and purchases as well as rental deals.

Over the years, I have also established a network reaching out to more than 9,400 expatriates, bringing my market presence to both in and outside of Singapore. This has created an additional exposure when I manage my client's portfolios, on top of the conventional on and offline platforms, where other estate agents are relying on. This has allowed me to consistently convert leads into results.

With an evolving market, where change is the only constant, I have also been investing in upgrading of my knowledge and skills sets to improve myself and meet the demands of current and future market.

We are offering our clients a complimentary first consultation without obligations (Absolutely FREE!). Schedule for your FREE session today!

You are right that intestate law will kick in. Alternatively, you can also do up a will in the event of demise that the property goes to your wife to assure her.

    Hi, thanks for the explanation.
    1) Yes, I purchased the HDB before getting married.
    2) This question was brought up as my wife feels more legally protected in the event of my demise, infidelity, etc. In the case of my demise, I guess intestate succession law will kick in.
Hi,

I would be most glad to assist you further and pls feel free to let me know if you need any assistance. Have a good day ahead. By the way, I don’t see any difference whether to add in your wife name or staying put as you are still the one holding sole ownership to this flat.
