Ananth, there has been a recent slew of new regulations for buyers of residential property.

There are additional stamp duty payable, for your first residential property purchase, you are looking at 15% of the purchase price on top of the regular stamp duty of 3%.

So hence for a S$1M property, you would need to pay S$180K in stamp duties.
This is for apartments & condominiums.

Foreigners are not allowed to purchase houses (ie landed properties), without prior approval from the authorities.

Email me and I can send you more specific examples, and do a financial costing for any purchases you wish to make.
