I currently have joint ownership of a HDB flat with my wife. We are looking to purchase a second property. Can I check if it is possible to transfer ownership of the flat to my wife so that I can buy private property as a "first" timer and avoid the 7% ABSD? Will HDB allow this transfer? What are the fees I have to pay?

Hi Mr G Tan,

Good day, how are you? Pertaining to your question, I am sorry to inform that HDB doesnt allow the transfer of HDB ownership from you to your wife or vice versa.

In this case, you will be unable to avoid the 7% ABSD when you are looking to purchase a second property. Also do note that the 7% applies if both you and your wife are Singapore Citizen. If one of you is a SPR, it will be 10% instead.

hi,

do not forget that on top of ABSD (7% for Singaporeans, 10% for SPR), you will need to pay the normal 3% Stamp Duty
