I bought a resale unit 2 years back. However I am looking to try and get a fresh BTO unit once I have MOPed.

How will the process be as there is a waiting time before I can move in to the new BTO?

Do I have to sell my unit first and then I can apply for a BTO?
Or once my BTO is up, I have a time frame to sell my current unit?

Any advice is appreciated. TIA.

Hi, once you have MOP, you will be able to apply for a new BTO without selling your current unit first. As for the waiting time before you move in to the BTO, it will depend on your financial funding for the BTO. If you are able to fund the BTO without touching on the sales proceed of your existing resale unit, you can collect the keys to the BTO first and sell your existing unit within 6months from key collection. However, if you are planning to use the funds from sale of resale flat to finance the BTO, you will have to do a contra, which in this case will require you to sell your unit first before you can collect your key as the money is needed to pay off the BTO.

2) You will be able to take part in the balloting exercise once you receive an approved HFE.
3) You have to ensure you have sufficient funds for the down payment, legal fees & stamp duty for the BTO when you are invited to select a unit.
4) The current building time for the BTO is from 2.5 years to 3.5 years according to the HDB.
5) You can continue to keep your unit until the BTO is ready for key collection. You have up to 6 months to sell your unit after the key collection.
6) However, if you need funds to pay for the BTO from the sale of the current flat. You will have to sell before the key collection.

Thank you for your question. You will only be eligible to apply for BTO upon fulfilling your MOP for the current place, and you do not need to sell your current unit first before you put up your application for BTO.

Since BTO takes time to be built, you will still be able to stay in your current place until the BTO is about time to collect keys, and depending on your finances, you can choose to only sell off your existing unit after collecting keys to the new unit (within 6 months), should you have the necessary finances to complete the purchase.

Should you require the funds from the sale of your current place to finance the purchase of the BTO, them you will be required to time the sale with respect to the key collection for your new place.

Do take note that should you have gotten CPF housing grants for your current resale flat, you will be considered as a 2nd timer, and resale levy will be applicable for your BTO purchase. depending on the existing flat type you have purchased. Hope this helps!

Hi,

Assuming you qualify for 80% hdb loan, there is a 10% downpayment plus 3% stamp duties you need to prepare when selecting an unit ("Agreement of Lease" phase). This can be covered by cash or CPF OA. If you have this funds you need not sell your hdb first.

Once your BTO keys are ready, another 10% will be required. The rest can be settled by loan and / or your sale proceeds after selling your HDB. Have to cover full purchase price before hdb allow you to collect keys. If you need your proceeds to come back first, then have to sell first and request extension of stay.

Upgrading to a BTO flat from your current HDB flat involves several steps. Once you meet the Minimum Occupation Period (MOP), you can apply for HDB Flat Eligibility (HFE).
