Why don't you consider purchasing a jumbo unit instead? These are the reasons why:
1. For 10 years and below units, the internal floor area are usually smaller. It will defeat the purpose of getting a bigger unit in the 1st place?
2. It is almost impossible to chance upon both sellers selling at the same time? You will need to purchase one first before seeking permission to purchase the one next door under the conversion scheme. More details on conversion scheme:

3. You can consider older flats that are already combined ie jumbo flats. These flats are located in matured estates and such flats are considered "limited edition" flats and therefore you should not have any issues getting a profit when selling them in the future. Older flats are also much more spacious in terms of layout and liveable area. Transaction is also straightforward as it is the same as purchasing a single flat.
