I am in the midst of selling my condo unit but no buyer yet. Me and my wife are both above 55 and we intend to downgrade to a 3rm HDB. Can we proceed to apply for HFE while waiting for our unit to be sold?

Hi Sir,

Yes it is possible to apply for HFE first, as it takes some time for the letter to be approved. Once approved, it will be valid for 6 months. As both of you are above 55 years old, you can purchase the resale HDB immediately after selling the condo. Would you have a temporary place to stay after selling?

Yes, please do so. In fact you are encouraged to do so as early as possible since it takes longer than the stipulated timing for approval now. Even if you have not sold your current place after the approval, there is still a validity period of 6 months.

Hi Sir,

Yes it is possible to apply for a HFE since both of you are above the age of 55 years old. However, from my experience, the HFE takes about 1 to 2 months to be approved and therefore it is recommended that you apply early via this link.

It would be ideal to plan the sale of your condo and the purchase of the HDB together so that you can transit from your current place to your new place smoothly and also use the sale proceeds of the condo to finance the purchase of the HDB.
