I am a Singaporean and my husband is on LTVP+. We are both 32 years old. I understand that if we were to buy a HDB, I will be the owner and he will only be an essential occupant as he is considered a Foreigner. Does this mean that if in the future, if he gets his PR and wants to purchase a property under his name, it will only be counted as his first property?

Good evening Ms,

you are absolutely right that you can only purchase under non citizen spouse scheme.

Do take note that he is only eligible to purchase a private condo under his sole name after fulfilling the 5 years MOP.

If he wants to buy a HDB, he has to buy it with you under a family nucleus.

Hi,

1) You are absolutely correct in your understanding.
2) However he will still have to observe the 5 yrs MOP with you before he is allowed to buy a private residential property.
3) As for the current cooling measures implemented. He is only subject to a 5% ABSD to buy the first residential property as an SPR, but 30% as a foreigner.
4) Do note that he won't be eligible to buy an HDB flat alone since you are married.
5) If he wants to be an owner of an existing flat, he will have to buy part-share from you to be an owner.

You're right. Though, take note that he will also need to fulfill the 5-year MOP of the HDB flat that you purchased before he's eligible to purchase another residential property. He will also need to dispose off any residential properties he owned overseas (if any).
