I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is a Singaporean PR. My wife and her sister (now Singaporean citizen) wish to sell their HDB flat which is registered under both names. My wife is presently living in Canada with me but her sister is still in Singapore living in the HDB. It is our understanding that the whole sale procedure can take 3 to 4 months where both my wife and her sister need to be present to sign. Our children our attending school in Canada so being away for 4 months is a strain for us. Can my wife give "Power of Attorney" to her sister to complete the sale without my wife having to go back to Singapore? Also my wife has lost her PR status since living in Canada so it is her sister that is the legal entity.

Afternoon Gaspi,

Did your wife lose her PR or did she give it up? To sell the unit, both you and your wife need to be in Singapore for at least two to three days, to complete the documents and Power of Attorney at the law firm. After that, your sister-in-law can do the rest of the process on her own. Do note that as your wife have lost her PR status, it would be good to request for the cheque to be issued under two different names, to make things simple.
