Hi, my wife and I are planning to buy a EC. Can one of us be the owner and the other a essential occupier, allowing the essential occupier to purchase a private property withou ABSD.

Hi,

Yes you can purchase this way, but please note both of you will still need to fulfil MOP of 5 years for the EC stay before either of you can get a 2nd residential property. By then who knows ABSD may no longer be a significant issue. The same goes for buying resale hdb, need to fulfil MOP of 5 years regardless owner or essential occupier.

If you wish to purchase 2 properties straight away on individual names, you can only do so via private condo options.

You are able to do so if it is possible to loan on just a single name, but you will still have to fulfil the Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) of 5 years before you can proceed to buy another condo/apartment using the 2nd name.

Yes it's possible, but both the owner and occupier would need to serve the same 5-year MOP; if you want to buy 2 units at once, do consider mass market resale private condo units.

New EC policy same like HDB policy. MOP of 5 years is a must unless you opt for resale EC age of 10 years onwards. It will work out then :)
