Dear sir,

If you are not the essential occupier of the HDB, you should be able to purchase a private property under your own name. If you are the essential occupier of the HDB, you will only be eligible to purchase a private property under your own name if the MOP is met for the HDB.

Hi,

1) Did your spouse become the 2nd owner of the current flat after you are married?
2) If the answer is positive, then you automatically became the essential occupier of the current flat.
3) You will have to observe the 5 yrs MOP before being allowed to buy a private residential property.
4) If the answer is negative, then you are just a normal occupier. You are not subject to the 5 yrs MOP restrictions.
5) You are free to buy a private property with your own name.
