Hi, my husband private property is bought before our marriage and is under his name. My name is not in the property. Am I considered a first time buyer if I buy a private property? Do I have to pay the additional stamp duty?

Hi Lili,

You do not need to pay Additional Buyer's Stamp Duty for your property purchase if the property is purchased solely under your name. If your husband's name is included, then the Additional Buyer's Stamp Duty applicable will be at 20%. The above scenarios will be applicable if both of you are Singapore Citizens. The rates will be higher if you are Singapore Permanent Residents or Foreigners.

In this scenario you do not own any residential property count and can purchase the 1st property without any ABSD. Do note buyer stamp duty of 3% to 5% is still applicable.

2. Do you intend to take loan for your purchase?
