Hi,
My Fiancee and I are Singapore Citizens are are getting married in Feb 2017.

How many months before our marriage should we start hunting for a Resale HDB flat?

Can we purchase a resale hdb flat before we get married? we want to utilize all government subsidies possible for getting out 1st home.

Hi Russell,

You should start soon, and get the unit that you really like.

You can buy under the Fiancé/Fiancée scheme, just need to submit your marriage certificate within 3 months from the resale completion date; for grants, you'd have to submit the marriage certificate before the resale completion date.

Congratulations on your engagement.

May I know it will be a solemnisation or wedding lunch/ dinner event next Feb?

Do take note that you have to produce marriage certificate by 2nd appointment (completion date) if you are taking CPF housing grant under Fiance/ Fiancee scheme.

Usually HDB legal completion period is around 3 to 4 months and let's say you will only get your marriage cert in Feb. If you factor in 1 month of househunting, probably you can start househunting this October.

Hi Russell,

You will need to product your ROM cert by the hdb 2nd appointment if you are getting the grant. It will be around 4 months from the date you sign the OTP. I believe its a good time to commence already, given that you need some time to house hunt and renovate, if you wish to move in right after the wedding in Feb 2017. You will NEED to submit your marriage certificate before the completion date if you are applying for Housing Grant.

A comfortable timeline would be settling the purchase in Aug/Sep period and going for completion in Feb (by which you would already have the marriage certificate).

You can start doing your homework by looking at the transaction volume and prices of the areas that you are keen on. May I know which are the potential areas that you are looking at and your budget so that I can assist you further?

Yes, you may buy a HDB resale flat. You may start looking for a flat in Jul/Aug 2016.

May I suggest that you call 9620 0827  for a casual chat as it would be much more productive since you need to understand how you can meet the timeline with the fluidity of events.
