Hi, my fiance and I have bought a resale flat in Serangoon. The owner previously requested for an extension.

Upon verbal agreement to this 1.5 month extension, and after our second HDB appointment, it was only when friends and relatives updated us that by "right" the sellers should compensate "rent" for that extension.

The agent involved did not let us know about this and I suppose we weren't aware of this "rent scheme". Now that we have tried bringing it up to our agent, she seems reluctant to reopen this case.

While I acknowledge that it was negligence on our end, is there any redress for our situation?

Cheers.

Dear sir/madam,

To be frank, I do not think there is any redress to speak of. Seller requested extension, you agreed on it and did not state that rental is to be paid for this extension. This is a goodwill private agreement between seller and yourself.

The opinions of your relatives and friends are in no doubt for your benefits, but these opinions are never the standard practise or procedure.

    Dear Geryl,

As mentioned, we weren't made aware that there was even such an option available. We are trying to say that the agent was not transparent with us.

There therefore wasn't any "negotiation" to begin with because the options were not made known to us. We agreed not knowing all the options available.

To be frank, did you read the line which states "The agent involved did not let us know about this and I suppose we weren't aware of this "rent scheme"."?

We regret bringing up this question here in a place filled with agents who seem to only be looking out for the interest of each other. Telling us to move on would have been better without a post on this thread.

Hi,

There is no such thing as a "rent scheme". I would say you have been ill-advised by non-professionals.

Anyway, legally you are not supposed to collect "rent" before you fulfill your 5-year MOP. The agreement of extension of stay is valid, and you have agreed to that as well. There is zero course of redress on your part.

Should you need any further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you and your partner in the current market.

Thank you.
