Hi Khalil

Thanks for your reply.

I bought my 3 RM HDB on the resale market and had a single's grant. It is full paid up. Actually my SPR partner has been living in the flat for over twenty years. We have a common law relationship.

I'll be 69YO in January and he'll be 75YO in March. It just dawned on me recently that should I keel over before him he will become homeless. He can't inherit the flat even if I want to will it to him because he doesn't form a family nucleus. I can't even will the flat to any of my siblings because they all own their properties.

Besides getting married and making him an essential occupier of the flat, can you suggest anything else I can do to keep the roof over his head.

Preferring to keep our common law relationship, is selling my 3-RM and buying another resale 3-RM jointly under Singaporean Single and SPR Single scheme the only way to go in order keep a roof over his head when I keel over.

Hi Mdm Tan,

1) Even after marriage and he becomes one of the owners after you transferred some share to him.
2) He still won't be able to keep the flat if there is anything that happened to you.
3) Selling existing and buy another also won't help in your situation either.
4) The main reason is he as an SPR is not eligible to keep the existing flat by himself.
5) The only solution I could think of is the convert to become an SC and both of you are legally married even you don't transfer any share to him. He will then be able to keep the flat by himself if there is anything that happened to you.

Hope the above answer to your main concerns, but if there are more query, please feel free to contact me at 90110636  , or email: ling.ck7@gmail.com if more information is needed.
I'll be glad to assist.
