Hi,

I'm currently listed as an "authorised occupier" in my parents' flat which is still under the minimum occupation period (they are the joint owners).

Can I check if I'm able to buy an overseas property under my name, given that I'm just listed as an "authorised occupier"? The information on HDB's website is a bit vague when it says "As a flat owner or occupier, you can choose to acquire private residential properties locally or overseas if you can fulfil the eligibility conditions that apply to your flat." I understand for "essential occupiers", it is similar to the joint owner and can only buy overseas property after the minimum occupation period. Does the same restriction apply to "authorised occupier" as well?

Thanks.

Hi James,

As you are not the essential occupier to your parents HDB flat, you are free to purchase a residential property (local or overseas) without having the need to fulfill the 5-year MOP.

Should you need require further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you in the current market.

Thank you.

Best regards,
