Hi. I'm above 35 years and considering to get an EC, due to budget constraint. I may settle down with my partner next year or so who co-own a HDB unit with his parent. Does he have to release the HDB unit if we get married?

Morning Lynn,

If both of you are purchasing new EC, your fiance has to transfer ownership to his parents thus free out his name to purchase it with you because new EC is under HDB regulations so one individual cants own two HDB regulated properties at any one time.

Do bear in mind that he must fulfill the applicable minimum occupation period for his current HDB before he can apply for new EC with you. And both of you should be considered as second timers if he has utilised the CPF housing grant before in his current HDB.

If both of you are buying resale EC, then he does not need to do ownership transfer at all.

Hope it helps!

Cheers!

Warmest Regards,
