Hi, I would like to enquire whether I’m eligible to purchase an EC.

My background:
- Single, below 35 yrs old
- Only child
- Parents divorced since 1996
- Been staying with Mother, Dad already remarried and has his own family
- unfortunately, my mother passed away about 3 years ago

Currently I’m staying with my grandparents in the HDB flat inherited from my mother.

I’m looking to sell this current house and hopefully purchase an EC. However, I’m not sure about my eligibility and how to proceed from here.

Would be great if anyone can provide some advice / help.

Good morning Sir/ Mdm,

you are eligible to purchase RESALE EC that had fulfilled their 5 years minimum occupation period (MOP). The purchase will be as per an private transaction.

If you are thinking of buying a NEW EC, I am afraid to inform you that you need to form a family nucleus in order to do so. Single is not eligible to purchase NEW EC as per current regulations.

As you are below 35 years old, you are currently not eligible for a new EC. However you are eligible for a resale EC which has fulfilled the MOP period.

Hi,

As a single you will be eligible to purchase resale EC that has met the MOP of 5 years, but not new EC. This is because new EC requires you to form a family nucleus, which seems not possible for your case (grandchild + grandparents not possible). Resale EC has its benefits as well, in that you need not wait for construction time and some of the prices are also competitive.

Unfortunately , you will not be able to purchase a NEW resale. You can however purchase a resale EC. You might not be familiar with the process and terminologies and might best interest you in getting acquainted with the whole framework. Do contact me if you would like to learn more.

Hi,

I regret to inform you that you're not eligible to apply for a brand new EC under your sole name. You may wish to consider a resale EC that the previous owners had met their MOP, or a private property instead.

However, if your Grandparents are:
i) Singaporeans, and
ii) do not have any other private properties (or did not disposed any within the last 30 months), and
iii) had not utilized their 2 times subsidized housing,
then you are eligible to purchase a brand new EC together with them under Public Scheme.

Do take note that you will need to sell off the current HDB latest within 6 months upon the TOP of the EC.
