Hi,

Yes — you should still include your children in the HFE application, even if:

You are buying a resale HDB

You are the sole owner

Your husband is listed as an occupier

You are not taking any HDB loan or grant

Why children should be included in the HFE

For HFE (HDB Flat Eligibility) applications, HDB looks at the entire household that will live in the flat, not just owners or loan applicants.

Your children are:

Part of the household nucleus

Living in the flat with you

Relevant for eligibility, flat size rules, and future matters

So they must be declared as household members.

For further assistance, you can reach me at 94507283  .

Thank you

    Hi Gary,
    Thanks for the reply.
    May I clarify the followings.
    1. If I include my children in the HFE application, HDB will take them as regular occupier or essential occupier as I only saw "occupier" without "essential" nor "regular" in the application?
    2. If I don't include my children in the HFE, will there be any implications?
    3. Is there any way to indicate my children as regular occupier in the purchase process besides the HFE application?
    4. Will my children be affected if I include them as regular occupier, for example to buy a HDB when they are eligible?
    Thanks and regards
Including children as essential occupiers can boost your eligibility for grants (like the Parenthood or Proximity Housing Grant). However, if you don't intend to take any grant, and you and your husband are already eligible to hold a HDB together, you may opt to exclude your children as essential occupiers.

In any case, if your children are going to live in the hdb, they should still be included as regular occupiers.

It sounds like you're in the midst of planning not just for the current HDB purchase but for future moves.

Yes, you can include the children's name as occupiers for the unit you intend to purchase. There is no implications with their names in. However, your husband will be the essential occupier in this case even if you qualify to purchase the HDB under your sole name, given that both of you are husband and wife.

Good day to you.

Taking the time to plan your estate before making a commitment is a very wise move. Depending on your particular situation, designating your children as Essential Occupiers can have significant implications.

First, consider the ages of your children. Will they be making any major life decisions before completing the MOP? It’s important to keep that in mind. Additionally, since you’re not applying for a housing grant or loan, what is your ultimate goal in adding them as essential occupiers?

You have to include your husband as an essential occupier, as both of you are viewed as a single entity in this context. If your children will indeed be making crucial decisions before fulfilling the MOP for your upcoming purchase, they could encounter unwanted regulatory challenges.

Navigating a property transaction can feel overwhelming, especially when it intersects with major life events.
With over 15 years of experience as a property consultant, my role goes beyond market knowledge — it is to provide clarity, structure, and peace of mind through complex decisions.

I regularly assist clients with sensitive and non-standard situations, including:
• Divorce & Asset Settlement — guiding parties toward fair, practical outcomes for shared properties
• Intestate & Estate Planning — helping families navigate inherited property and future planning with confidence
• Complex Property Matters — including cases involving Lasting Power of Attorney, bankruptcy, or special circumstances

If you’re seeking clarity rather than pressure, I’m happy to have a conversation to understand your situation and outline possible next steps.

1✓ Include your children in the HFE application even if you are buying a resale flat under your sole name and not taking any HDB loan or grant.

2✓ HDB assesses eligibility based on the full household living in the flat, so children must be declared for housing and future planning considerations.

3✓ Children may be listed as occupiers without any negative impact, and your husband will still be recognised as the essential occupier as you are legally married.

Hi Mdm,

Yes, you should still list your children in the HFE application.

Even though you aren't taking a grant or the HDB loan, HDB requires you to declare your full family nucleus when buying a resale flat. Since you are the owner and your husband is the occupier, your children are part of the household unit. Listing them ensures your application reflects your actual family size and avoids any hiccups during the approval process.

With extensive experience spanning both HDB resale and private property transactions, I possess a comprehensive understanding of the market that can guide your specific property goals. Whether you are looking to buy, sell, or invest, I am ready to provide a tailored assessment of the current opportunities available to you.

For a confidential and in-depth discussion, please feel free to contact me directly at +65 97 48 63 05.

Yes, you should include your children in the HFE (HDB Flat Eligibility) application. HFE isn’t just about grants or loans—it’s about household composition. HDB uses the HFE application to confirm who will be living in the flat and whether the flat meets eligibility rules.

Even if you’re paying fully in cash and not using any HDB loan or grants:
• Including your children ensures the flat’s household composition is properly registered.
• It helps HDB determine if the flat size and type are suitable for your household.
• It also prevents any future complications if HDB queries the occupiers after the flat is bought.

So for your application, list:
• Yourself as owner,
• Husband as occupier,
• Your children as occupiers. Read More

Hi,

1) All members in your family must be in the application be it an owner or occupier.
2) Unless, you decided not to include your children to live in the unit with you.

All The Best!!!
