Hi I hold both Spanish and American passport. I am aware that Americans have ABSD Remission under Free Trade Agreements and will be accorded the same Stamp Duty treatment as Singapore Citizens. My question is if I enter Singapore with my Spanish passport, can I still buy private property as an American?

Dear Buyer,
Ideally, you would want to use the American passport as it carries more weight and to avoid unnecessary complications when you apply to use the privileges associated with the American passport and citizenship. Sometimes, small things like this can cause red tape issues.

Hi J,

1) I understand that USA and Spain allow dual citizenship.
2) You have to ensure that you have US citizenship instead of only the permanent residence status; i.e. holding a green card.
3) Because only US citizenship is eligible to the exemption of ABSD for the 1st residential property in Singapore.
4) You should be fine when you produce the proof of citizenship in purchasing your residential property.
5) There are no rules saying you should enter the country under which citizenship.
