Hi, I am eligible to buy my first home in early September. I have shortlisted few HDB resale units from this website. I have no agent represent me at this moment. Do I need agent in order to view the unit? Am I able to engage agent to do the paperwork only since I already shortlisted some units? What is the agent commission percentage for preparing paper work? In what circumstances that I need to pay commission to seller's agent? Thanks

Evening Christine,

As per CEA ruling, seller's agent are not eligible to collect commission from direct buyers. You do not need a salesperson to represent you if you are fully aware of the transaction process, documentation requirements and what to take note of. If you do intend to get a salesperson, either to represent you or assist you on the paperwork, the rates should be worked out before proceeding further.

Hi Christine

It would be good to find an agent to represent you as it would save you tons of time and paperwork. Your agent is the one responsible for arranging the various units to view and of course settling the paper work ie. walking you thru the HDB appointment processes.

The commission payable if you will to engage an agent is 1% of the purchase price plus GST.

Pls feel free to contact me should you need any assistance. Cheers!
