Hi gurus, I have a question. We are looking to buy a resale HDB flat and made our offer. However, the OTP is only made to my husband. We intend for the flat to be jointly owned by my husband and myself. Would that be an issue when we exercise the OTP?

Hi Mdm,

First of all congrats on finding your new home.

If you want to be the owner, then your name will need to be inside the OTP. This will have effect on your loan as only the owners can use their CPF to pay for the loan mortgages. If your name is not inside the ownership then your CPF assets cannot be used to pay for loan mortgages.

If you have anymore queries, maybe you can drop me a call and I can try to explain more in depth to you over the phone and it might be easier for you to understand.

Hope my explanation helped a little.

Hi Mdm,

Yes, it will be a BIG issue.

The question is, why is the OTP consisting only your husband's name when you're doing a joint-purchase?

If you're intending it to be a joint-purchase, you might need to re-do another OTP.

Should you need any further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you and your partner in the current market.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Good afternoon,

I would not be surprised if the initial agreement between you and your husband is to purchase the unit under single ownership while your name will be included as essential occupier. If that's not the case, your servicing agent might have made a huge mistake. However, to be a joint owner, you would need to be at least SC or SPR. Only when this is the case, can your intention be fulfilled. Do talk to your agent about it so that the issue can be rectified.
