Hi expert, I am a Malaysian but already a PR in Singapore and has been working in singapore for the past seven years. I bought a condo in Malaysia a couple of years back. My question is, if I apply a hdb with my Singapore boyfriend, do I need to declare to hdb that I have a condo in Malaysia? What will happen upon declaration? Appreciate if you could furnish me in detail the outcome?

You cannot buy a HDB flat as long as you own an overseas property.

Hi Ms,

Yes, you will need to declare to HDB the properties you own. Failure to do so is as good as false declaration, and HDB has the right to confiscate your HDB flat if found out. My advice for you is not to get yourself into such a situation.

As you currently own a private property, you will not be eligible to purchase a HDB flat. You will need to sell the condo and wait out for 15 months before being eligible to purchase a resale flat.

My Answer with regards to your Question:

Prior to being eligible for a resale HDB purchase, you must dispose of your overseas property ownership.

Following the disposal, a waiting period of 15 months is mandated before you can apply for a resale HDB flat.

Alternatively, if you plan to apply for a Build-to-Order (BTO) flat with your Singapore Citizen (SC) partner, a waiting period of 30 months applies after disposing of your overseas property.
