Hello experts,

Appreciate your help. Many thanks in advance !!

My mum ( singaporean , > 70 yr old & widowed ) and I ( singaporean, > 40 yrs old & divorced ) , we are planning to buy a property. Currently we are targeting a HDB BTO or HDB EC or condo.

I sold my first HDB flat in Dec 2012. That was a HDB re-sale purchase with HDB grant. Now, I do not own any Singapore property.

I co-owned an oversea property for 4 - 5 years now. The mortgage loan through a Singapore bank and co-financed by my co-owner and I.

My mum sold her first HDB in 2001 / 2002. That was a HDB purchase in ~ 1978.
Now, she does not own any Singapore property.

(1) Are we eligible to buy a HDB ( BTO or EC ) ?

(2) Do I need to sell my oversea property before we can buy a HDB ?

(3) Without selling my oversea property, how will it impact our eligibility to buy a HDB ( BTO or EC ) ?

(4) Similarly, without selling my oversea property, how will it impact our eligibility to buy a condo ?

Hi Phil, if you are purchasing HDB or EC unit, you will have to dispose off your overseas property within 6 months upon collecting the keys. But for a condo unit, you do not have to sell away the overseas property.

Good afternoon Phil,

You have to sell off your overseas residential property 30 months before you can apply for HDB BTO or new EC. If you don't want to do so, probably private property (inclusive of resale EC) will be the best alternative for you.

Even you purchase a resale HDB, you have to dispose of your overseas residential property within 6 months from completion date.

If you need any assistance or advice in your property purchase, feel free to contact me. Cheers!

Hi,

If you intend to keep the overseas property, your only option will be to go for resale or pre-TOP private condos, as the other options you either have to wait 30months after disposing your overseas property to apply or dispose after 6 months after key collection to resale hdb. Thanks and may I understand your requirements further so as to value-add to your housing plans?

Warm regards
