Good day Sir/Madam,

May I know if my wife and I both are Singapore Permanent Residents, can I buy a resale HDB in Singapore under my name while my wife owned a property in Malaysia?

Good morning,

Unfortunately you will not be eligible as the wife will be an essential occupier of the HDB therefore should not own any other residential property under her name whether is it in Singapore or abroad.

Hi Sir,

If both you and your Wife are SPRs for more than 3 years, you can purchase a HDB resale flat under your sole name, with your Wife as an essential occupier.

Do take note that your Wife will have to dispose off her interests in all properties (local and overseas) latest within 6 months upon the HDB flat purchase. If the property she owned overseas is for her family's occupation, she may wish to write in to HDB to appeal for a waiver to sell off the property. Approval will be on a case-by-case basis.

Alternatively, you may wish to consider private property instead.

Hi,

1) SPR families need at least 2 owners in the application.
2) Both must have maintained the SPR status for at least 3 years or more.
3) You may apply with your wife to buy an HDB resale flat, but she has to dispose of her interest in the overseas property within 6 months upon key collection of the purchase.
4) She will have to sign an undertaking letter with the HDB at the completion to dispose of her interest in the overseas property if she did not do so before the completion.
