1) Even a married SC couple cannot own their HDB flats separately, this is because a married couple is considered as a single entity in the eyes of the HDB.
2) Regarding the near future of applying for BTO. You will have to complete the 5-year MOP together with your wife for this resale flat before eligible to apply for a BTO because your wife is an essential occupier in the formula.
3) She will be able to apply the BTO together with you as an essential occupier.
4) Once you complete the 5-year MOP with your wife in the BTO, you will be able to buy a private residential property under your name only.
5) So that you will only incur the 5% ABSD instead of the 30%.
6) Do note that your CPF cannot be utilized when you are listed as an occupier. So you will do your financial planning carefully whether this is workable for both of you.
