An EC can be sold in the open market after it has met its 5-year Minimum Occupation Period (MOP). This is computed from the date of issuance of the Temporary Occupation Permit (TOP). After the 5-year MOP, from the 6th to 10th year, ECs can be sold in the open market to Singaporeans and PRs only.
After the 10th years, it can be sold in the open market to foreigners and corporate bodies.
In your case, you may either opt to purchase it under your name from the 6th to 10th year or jointly after the 10th year.
