When you use the term MOP, I take it that you bought first hand from HDB / or via subsidised housing loan?
If that's the case, then you are right, you cannot buy a private apartment/condo as the LEGAL owner before the 5 year MOP is up. Having said that, under special circumstances, there have been instances whereby being close to the MOP, buyers have been able to appeal to waive the full 5 years.
