Hi Mr. Lim,

Yes your name is required to form the family nucleus with your wife. As an essential occupier, the 5 year MOP needs to be observed as well. Unless your mother in law can finance the resale hdb on her sole name, otherwise it may be tough to fulfil the plan.

Hi Jew Yong,

Should your Wife were to purchase the HDB flat, you will need to include your name either as a co-owner, or an essential occupier.

You could however use your Mother-in-Law's name (together with your Father-in-Law?) to purchase the HDB flat, while you and your Wife can purchase another property (HDB or condo).

Alternatively, you could also use your kids name to purchase the condo. There are many possibilities, and we could explore further in depth the options that are available to you.

As my colleagues have mentioned, buying a HDB requires you to form a family nucleus and therefore you will need to be included as an essential occupier which will result in a 5 year bar period during which you cant buy a private property.
