Can I rent out HDB 4-room currently under my mother-in-law's name? Can I have her sign a Letter of Agreement or she needs to be present when I go to HDB Hub to get approval for rent? She is 60 years old, widowed and not working.

By the way, yes your mum in law will have to sign on the tenancy agreement if she is a co owner and also she could just apply for HDB approval via online will do and need not go all the way to the HDB branch office.

Dear Wati Wati,

Has your mother in law fulfilled the Minimum Occupation Period of 5 years and is the household a Singapore Citizen household?

If it is positive for both questions above, then she should be eligible to rent out the property but she will need to be the person who signs on all the agreement unless she has appointed a Power Of Attorney to do so. Registration for approval to rent can be done online using her Singpass through MyHDB page.

For rental transaction, there is no need to go to HDB hub. Tenancy agreement can be signed anywhere but you need to log in to your mother in-law Singpass through HDB infoweb to seek HDB approval to rent out the unit. I am well versed in HDB transactions. There is no need to go down to HDB for HDB Approval for Rent. Everything is done online using the SingPass of the owner.

Your Mother-in-law just need to have her SingPass, and then sign on the Tenancy Agreement. I will handle the rest of the checks (to ensure the pass validity of the tenants) for her on her behalf.
