Single SPR can't purchase resale HDB, needs to be married SPR couple with SPR status of 3 years each. Yes in your case it may be good to get a studio first. Perhaps may meet your special one after that and can purchase hdb together.

In order for you to qualify to purchase a HDB flat, you will need to either be married to a Singapore Citizen, or a SPR where both of you must have been SPR for more than 3 years.

You are ineligible to purchase a HDB flat even if you are 20 years SPR but Single.

You could consider a private studio condo. Do take note ABSD rate of 5% for SPR's first property applies.
