Hi,

It depends on your objectives but from experience working with clients in similar situations, they tend to want to move a few years down the road due to a change in circumstances such as meeting a special one or prefer a change in environment. In my opinion, buying a private property now is better in terms of capital preservation and building wealth, as for older HDB prices are unlikely to appreciate with various government policies introduced to keep HDB pricing affordable in the future.

The right property would appreciate in the next 5 to 8 year, and this extra capital gain can help to secure the retirement while you look out for the next property for in tune with your next phase of life (it could be a spacious hdb or older private apartment).

Dear Sir/Mdm,

It depends on your objectives and individual requirements. If you have a family and is buying for own stay, 2 spacious resale HDB will make more sense. However, if you are buying it for investment ie for rental, with the hope for capital appreciation in the future, then a freehold condo may be a better option.
