Hi ml, for investment purposes, I would recommend a 1bedroom or a 2 bedroom unit near city area or east coast area. Rental yields are better and the potential for capital appreciation will be much higher.
Since this is your first property, and since property investment is a long-term investment (a span of 5 years is ideal), I would advise that you consider the purchase carefullly.
1. The property market will always rise long term, but it is subject to fluctuations in the short term. If your investment horizon is short, about 1-2 years, this investment may involve risk.
2. Since the investment is for long term, you will need a place to stay in for this period. If you already have long term accomodation, then property investment is right for you. Alternatively, you can also choose stay in your purchased unit and wait for capital appreciation, although this would mean that you have to forgo the rental yield which the unit can bring.
