Toa Payoh

Toa Payoh is HDB's second satellite town. It was built in 1968 after Queenstown. This well-developed housing estate is a famous residential area in Singapore thanks, in large part to the many significant events that took place here such as, the visits by Queen Elizabeth II in 1972 and 2006, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in 2007.

 

It also hosted the South East Asian Peninsular (SEAP) games in 1973. Spanning over an area of 8 sq km with an estimated 150,000 residents, it has more than 36,600 flat units with the majority being 3-room and 4-room flats.

Owing to the high sales of apartments in this area, more residential areas are slated for development in this region in the coming years.

HDB Hub

Toa Payoh, also known as the "big swamp land", used to be the place where people in the old days engaged in farming and pig rearing.

It has since undergone a massive transformation to serve as a focal point for shopping and recreational needs for its residents.

The HDB estates located in Toa Payoh is home to the Housing and Development Board's headquarters and is integrated with Singapore's first fully air-conditioned Toa Payoh Bus Interchange as well as Toa Payoh MRT Station.

The Toa Payoh HDB estate is situated in the Central region of Singapore. The neighboring regions of Toa Payoh are Balestier (D12), Novena (D11), Potong Pasir (D13), Thomson (D11, D13).

Transportation network

Toa Payoh HDB Estate provides its residents with good transport facilities that keep the area well connected with the other parts of Singapore. Two common modes of transportation are roadways and railways.

The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) provides services that come at regular intervals of 2 to 8 minutes and are generally inexpensive. A huge percentage of the commuters use it for their traveling.

Some of the stations that are found in close proximity to the Toa Payoh HDB estate are Toa Payoh MRT (NS19), Braddell MRT (NS18), Novena MRT (NS20), Potong Pasir MRT (NE10), Woodleigh MRT (NE11) and Caldecott MRT (CC17). These are all underground stations.

Residents of Toa Payoh HDB Estate also have access to a bus terminal where people can get a wide variety of buses travelling towards different parts of Singapore. Singapore Bus Services (SBS) operates regular buses in this region. Some of the services in Toa Payoh are:
